Corcovado Overnight: Sirena + Hike Out

Two Days and One Night at Sirena Ranger Station – Boat In, Hike Out

Overnight SIRENA Tour!

Want to combine an immersive experience at Sirena with one of Corcovado’s most rewarding long-distance hikes?

Our 2-day, 1-night adventure begins with a boat journey to Sirena Ranger Station, giving you the first day to explore one of the most wildlife-rich areas of Corcovado National Park. After spending the night at the ranger station, the second day takes you on a challenging 20 km hike through the rainforest and along the coastline to La Leona. Combining wildlife exploration, an overnight stay and a demanding trek, this tour is designed for experienced hikers seeking a deeper and more adventurous way to experience Corcovado.

Day 1: Puerto Jiménez to Sirena by Boat

The adventure begins at 5:30 am at the public pier in Puerto Jiménez, where we’ll board the boat to Sirena Ranger Station. During the approximately two-hour journey to Corcovado National Park, enjoy the beautiful morning scenery as we travel through the Golfo Dulce and continue along the Pacific coast. Keep an eye out for marine wildlife such as dolphins, sea turtles, seabirds and, during whale season, even humpback whales.

Upon arriving at Sirena, prepare for a wet landing and follow your guide’s instructions. After completing the registration process at the ranger station, you’ll leave your overnight belongings there and get ready for the adventure. Since nature never rests, we’ll begin exploring the surrounding trails right away, searching for the extraordinary flora and fauna that make this area so special. Around lunchtime, we’ll return to the station for a meal and some time to rest.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll head out for another guided walk, offering a new opportunity to explore Sirena’s trails and observe wildlife as the conditions begin to change. We’ll return to the station no later than 6:00 pm for dinner and a well-earned night’s rest, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Day 2: Sirena to La Leona – 20 km Hike

The second day usually begins around 5:00 am, although the exact departure time will depend on weather conditions and the tides. After collecting a packed meal to enjoy along the way, we’ll leave Sirena Ranger Station and begin the approximately 20 km hike toward La Leona.

The trail follows the coastline through the rainforest, with some sections taking you directly onto the sandy beach. Along the way, we’ll cross streams and rivers, navigate uneven terrain and continue searching for wildlife that we may not have encountered on the first day. We’ll also take breaks to rest, hydrate and enjoy our packed meal while taking in the changing scenery. Pristine beaches, lush green forests and breathtaking coastal views are all part of the journey.

Although most of the route has little elevation gain, the distance, heat, humidity and sections of soft sand make this a physically demanding hike. The journey usually takes around eight hours and is recommended for travelers accustomed to walking long distances and without serious injuries or physical limitations.

Upon reaching La Leona, we’ll continue to Carate, where transportation will be waiting to take us back to Puerto Jiménez. You will be back at about 2-3 PM.
